The two of us make up the entire Kill Devil Rum Ball Company. We have enjoyed the OBX since we started to vacation here around 2003, We moved here in '09 and have grown to love life on this sand bar. Thank you very much for your interest in our locally sourced, handmade Outer Banks product.
Our Story
Looking for a way to become more involved and invested in our community, we wanted to start a small seasonal business, and do something fun that involved the heritage and vibe of the OBX. Something that would resonate with our visitors. Pirates, rum, and life on a sandbar. We started making rum balls in our kitchen, experimenting with variations in the recipe. I had neighbors come over to blind taste test several iterations of the recipe and complete cards to select the best one, we have been using it for over 15 years now. We had been making rum balls for 5 years when four local guys, Scott, Matt, Alan and Kelly opened Outer Banks Distilling and started producing Kill Devil Rum in Manteo. We quickly teamed up with them and continue to use Kill Devil Rum in our recipe. We also use local honey from The Real McCoy Honey in Nags Head. Julie and I are the entire Kill Devil Rum Ball Company. Together we have produced over 90,000 rumballs in a single season.
Interestingly, as of today we are the only Rum Ball Manufacturer in the America!
